Single of the Week: Mallrat ft Allday ‘UFO’
Brisbane artist Grace Shaw, known as Mallrat, has teamed up with rapper pal Allday to bring us UFO, a track of extra-terrestrial proportions. The single comes off the back of super successful Hottest 100 hit ‘Better’, and is just a taster of the pop/rap princess’ new EP set to be released in the next month.
UFO is a gentle whirlpool of sweet beats and soft vocals that mix together to create a poignant, upbeat tune. Add the signature sound of Allday and you’ve got a smooth indie-pop hit that is sure to have people grooving slowly and steadily for months to come. This isn’t Mallrat’s first collaboration with Allday, with the young singer featuring in 2 songs on Allday’s 2017 album Speeding. Mallrat cites Allday as actually being one of her main sources of inspiration to start her music journey; telling VMagazine that after going to just one of Allday’s concerts when she was 15, she knew that rap and song-writing was ‘exactly what she wanted to do’.
UFO has been released ahead of a massive few months for Mallrat, playing Sydney City Limits festival in Feb before flying to Austin to play at the SXSW Festival in March. And as if that wasn’t enough, you can catch Mallrat at Groovin the Moo festivals after she returns from her US tour in California and NYC. This up and coming Aussie legend is one to watch, and we can’t wait for everything she has in store for us.
