Mix of The Week: ACID MONDAYS

Robot Heart 10 Year Anniversary

True to the Burning Man ethos of resistance to hierarchies there is no single stage at the Nevada festival. As such, each stage holds its own mystique and allure. The Robot Heart stage, which celebrated ten consecutive years at Burning Man 2017, is set in the white sands of the playa and is defined by its mobile metal structure which supports a plethora of speakers. To mark this anniversary, Robot Heart is releasing an assortment of mega-mixes from the artists who have graced the stage in the previous years. A common thread of these performing artists is that their sets can be likened to the slow release of energy felt by attendees. This is due to the idea that the music is secondary to the experience of the festival, almost as a 'buildup' towards the climatic ritualistic burning of wooden sculptures.

This mix by ACID MONDAYS borrows from the concept of endurance music. New sonic elements are gradually added to spice up the mix, with the dependent variable being the trance or techno backbeat used to grab the additional sounds like glue. The ACID MONDAYS signature is the blend of hypnotic slurred vocals, that serve more as a spoken performance than traditional singing.

This lengthy mix of just under two hours is just a taste of the numerous musicians and artists involved, across nine days of the festival and witnessed by the seventy thousand who attended in celebration of 'burning the man'.
