“Landing” by Photographer Maen Hammad

“Landing” by Photographer Maen Hammad

Maen Hammad, a photographer originally from Palestine but raised in Michigan, USA, and now residing in Washington, D.C., brought his skateboard when he returned to Palestine in 2014.

For the past six years, Hammad has documented the Palestinian skateboarding community, forging a reciprocal relationship with the people there. His upcoming photobook, "Landing," showcases the Palestinian skateboard scene and captures the escapism it offers Hammad and other Palestinian skaters.

This escape is a form of resistance to the violence in Palestine, a way to participate in their surroundings, and a tool to build a community. Ultimately, "Landing" reminds this community of the freedom and imagination that skateboarding brings. Explore more from the "Landing" series below.
