Four New Global Dining Venues Coming to Wynyard
If you’ve been awaiting, as we have, the end of the light-rail’s construction and the realisation of the promise of a pedestrian friendly CBD, then the latest announcement from Merivale’s CEO Justin Hemmes will start to whet your palette for the taste of what’s to come once George Street is closed off to cars.
Swapping out four retail outlets, Hemmes will be placing four signature dining experiences in what’s been dubbed ivy 2.0. First up is Little Felix, the little sister of down the alley neighbour Felix. Bringing casual French dining out of the depths of the laneway bistro and onto the boulevard, Little Felix will only seat 60, but will define the late-night energy that Hemmes hopes will suffuse this end of the city.
As the City of Sydney hopes to turn inner Sydney into a 24-hour urban metropolis, quality late night dining will be an essential part of the mix. That’s where the rest of the announcement comes in. Totti’s will ride it’s wave of easy-going Italian into the city with an Italian bar concept, while head chef Simon Zalloua operates a dual Middle-Eastern takeaway and Mediterranean taverna. With vegetarian options tipped to feature heavily, we’re hoping for the fluffy felafels of our dreams, slathered in garlic sauce and wrapped up in fresh pita as the post-drinks snack of choice.
The final entrant to Sydney’s future late night game will be a Mexican eatery that builds on the laneway energy pumping out of Palings Lane and Ash Street. A vision that puts quality and accessibility front and centre, Hemmes notes that the priority is to create “somewhere that ebbs and flows as life does, where 70-year-old best friends can be enjoying espresso martinis alongside 20-somethings exploring a wine list. Warm, inclusive, organic interaction and enjoyment, which is something all world-class cities excel at”.
More details are expected to be announced soon.
