Mix of the Week 10/10: Sunset Bros. - Festival X 2019 Minimix

Mix of the Week 10/10: Sunset Bros. - Festival X 2019 Minimix

Across their fifteen year careers, the Sunset Bros. have not only wowed dancefloors in their native Sydney, but have also found worldwide success from their unique fusion of NRG, house, techno, and trance. Ahead of their appearance at this year’s Festival X, which includes other standout acts like Calvin Harris, Lil Pump and Alison Wonderland, the Sunset Bros. have released at jam packed fifty-minute mix, giving fans a taste of what to expect from their set. With crisp production, infectious melodies and a tasteful selection of their favourite tracks right now, the mix is able to stand on its own outside of this Festival X context.

As previously stated, the Sunset Bros. are effective at mixing and melding genres to make the most out of every beat. This is on full display in this mix, with the production able to create this eclectic electronic sound. Some of the bass work is dubby, with heavy drops and thumping drum machines, while others are more trance, with tight, fast paced pads exhilarating the audience and driving their heartbeats. Some of the other more house tracks are brighter, with broad synths reverberating in the top end to create a melodic shimmer. There are some nice techno melodies peppered throughout the mix, balancing out the low end. As a result, the music is excitingly varied, never getting boring, while remaining consistently energetic, grounding every track together. The song selection also helps to this musical range and variety. Remixed tracks include CeCe’s Peniston’s “Finally”, Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina’s “Stereo Love” and The Automatic’s “Monster”. However, this collection of dance, electronic and even alternative rock songs are all processed through the Sunset Bros. Churned out on the other side are heavy EDM tracks, suited for something like Festival X.

This mix is perfect for an introduction to both Festival X’s line-up and to the Sunset Bros. Catch these Sydney veterans at Festival X in Auckland on November 28th, Sydney on November 30th and in Melbourne on December 1st.
