MBFWA 2019 in Review

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia was a week of highs and lows; of trends unexpected and predictable; designers new and old; swings and misses. Amid all the glitz and glamour, there were a few moments which stood out from the crowd.

Ten Pieces Resort ‘20: Cosmic Runner

At the iconic Iceberg Club, the morning sun shone hot and bright over the invitees of Bondi-born brand Ten Pieces. Mingling on the balconies above an emptied pool, sipping on aperitivos by Matt Whiley of Scout and customising their very own The Daily Edited monogrammed phone chargers and notebooks; guests chatted happily, overlooking the midday surfers and rolling waves.

Justin Cassin Resort 2020

Inside the Big Top theatre, the iconic scenery was replaced with a blank stage, a canvas primed to be painted with Cassin’s latest creations. However, these creations were overlooked amidst a confusing jumble of too-short musical performances, DJ sets, and off-key dance numbers.

Anna Quan Writes a New Script for MBFWA 2019

In an unprecedented turn of events, Anna Quan sought to tip the fashion week formula on its head and opt for a presentation instead of a runway show. Guests were invited up to the first floor of Carol Crawford’s studio in Surry Hills, where they were met with a cast of Anna Quan-clad girls and boys.

Bohemian Beauty at We Are Kindred

Inside Gallery Two, it was only just past 11am but champagne was already flowing in anticipation of We Are Kindred’s Bohème Heart Resort ‘20 runway presentation. TAFE FDS Innovators

In the middling hours of the afternoon at the first full day of Fashion Week, crowds seemed to be getting tired and slowing down, no matter how many free coffees they imbibed - but the TAFE FDS Innovators runway was like a fresh boost of energy and excitement, leaving guests buzzing excitedly at the diverse new designs on display.

Bec & Bridge Open Day Two

On a white shag carpet running the length of Carriageworks, Bec & Bridge unveiled their latest collection. A 70’s inspired and playful show, each outfit simultaneously made us reminisce of a time gone by while giving us hope for a fashionable future.

Tigerlily Resort 2020 - Aloha State

Walking into Gallery One at Carriageworks for Tigerlily’s Resort 2020 was a breath of fresh air - stepping from the hot early-afternoon sun into the vast, nearly empty warehouse. At the centre of the space was a brightly lit runway, filled with abstract white sculptures and lush green plants.
