The Weekly Collection #36

This week; a sad announcement from Samantha Wills, a less sad announcement from Crocs, new releases from Madewell x Karen Walker and the best sales in Sydney - all for your perusal.

Samantha Wills Announces Closing of Jewellery Brand

Back in 2004, a new Sydney-based jewellery brand officially launched at Fashion Week, taking the name of its creator: Samantha Wills. The brand quickly gained fame and following after it was sported by the likes of Taylor Swift, JLo and Rihanna, and in 2011 Wills was named a “breakout star” by the New York Times. This week, on social media, Wills announced that her jewellery brand will be closing up shop: “I started SAMANTHA WILLS jewellery on my kitchen table by following my heart; showing equal parts courage and insanity. It is this same heart that is now telling me that it’s time to let go and go out and discover the next chapter.” Do not stress - in addition to teasing future moves in new directions, Wills says the brand isn’t due to officially close until January 2019, and she promises “we are not going out quietly.”

Madewell x Karen Walker: Now Available

Earlier this month, denim specialists Madewell announced an upcoming collaborative collection with New Zealand-born designer Karen Walker; and this week, it’s available to buy! The collection features a range of dresses, blouses and bottoms in Walker’s signature feminine, flowy style that pair beautifully with a range of minimalistic yet versatile denim pieces by Madewell. As an added and increasingly common bonus, the collection is size-inclusive, with pieces available in XXS to XXXL. And even better - Madewell ships worldwide, including Australia, so you don’t have to worry about missing out. Never fear, Crocs are still here …

Early this week, the fashion world was thrown into a frenzy when infamously polarising footwear brand Crocs announced that they are closing down their remaining manufacturing facilities. At this news, you’d expect that most people with any sort of taste or style would be jumping for joy at the end of an overly long era of the clunky rubber clogs - but surprisingly, there was a considerable amount of concern from lovers of the brand. As the brand eventually tweeted, however, it’s a false alarm: Crocs are just focusing on streamlining their business, so the shoes aren’t going anywhere, for now. Oh well - a girl can dream, right?
