Burberry Redesign - Innovative or Uninspired?

Earlier this year, Burberry announced a new Chief Creative Officer in the shape of Riccardo Tisci, who has formerly worked with the likes of Rihanna, Beyoncé and Givenchy. Tisci assigned the grand task of a brand redesign to British designer Peter Saville, who was given just four weeks to dream up a new logo for the famed brand. On the one hand, the new monogram pattern, in interwoven shades of red and honey and inspired by archives from founder Thomas Burberry, is a pretty fresh update, and sure to become as iconic as the old design. On the other hand, the new logo - well, it’s just nothing short of underwhelming. If you’re super into minimalism, maybe it’d be right down your alley - but for a brand with such strong heritage and prestige as Burberry, you’d hope for a little more than a shift to sans-serif.

Zombie Boy Rick Genest Dies

Performer, songwriter and icon of the fashion scene, Rick Genest, has sadly passed away early this week. Known popularly as Zombie Boy, or Rico the Zombie, due to his unique head-to-toe tattoos, he rose to international fame in 2011 when he featured in Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ music video. Despite this sudden fame, he remained a man of his own making, and a down-to-earth sort of artist. Ultimately, during his years in the limelight, Zombie Boy became a true champion of the different; the unexpected; the uniquely and unusually beautiful. His determination to remain true to himself and to challenge traditional beauty norms was refreshing and honest, and he will be missed.
