Four years ago, King Krule meant resounding guitar riffs coupled with vocals known for their gravelly punch and raucousness, telling stories of heartache and anger.
Meet Sophie Payten, aka Gordi – a young songwriter hailing from rural New South Wales, Australia. Her hometown of Canowindra boasts a quaint township, whose nurturing green landscapes helped foster Gordi’s creative intuition growing up.
“Intimate without ever feeling too precious”, says Jen Cloher about her latest self-titled release. Characterised by a variation of outwards and inwards focus, the punk-rock figurehead of the Melbourne DIY music scene shines us a light into her processes of artistic and personal growth.
