‘Cactus Jack Dior’ Collection Gets a New Release Date
Travis Scott and Dior's co-created 'Cactus Jack Dior' capsule was debuted during the reveal of the Dior SS22 collection back in September 2021, and it's had a long, winding road since then – originally slated to drop in January 2022, it was postponed indefinitely after crowd surges at Scott's overstuffed Astroworld festival led to the deaths of 10 attendees in November 2021.
'Out of respect for everyone affected by the tragic events at Astroworld, Dior has decided to postpone indefinitely the launch of products from the Cactus Jack collaboration originally intended to be included in its summer 2022 collection,' the house said in a statement at the time. However, Scott is gradually working his way back into the public eye: he announced his Project HEAL initiative back in March, and put out both Air Max 1s and Air Trainer 1s as part of a collaboration with Nike in May – interestingly, that collection was advertised as 'CACT.US CORP x Nike' instead of 'Travis Scott x Nike.' Now, the 'Cactus Jack Dior' collection will serve as the next litmus test for the once-omnipotent rapper as he looks to regain his former stature as both an artist and a brand partner.
The collection consists of men's ready-to-wear apparel and accessories plus the B713 sneaker. Per Dior, the collection is inspired by skatewear, Scott's personal style and classic house motifs. Digging in beyond surface-level credits to skateboarding and Scott's connection to it, the B713 is very close in both shape and style to eS' Sal Barbier 2, and the 'CD' logo on its top eyestay is nearly identical to the logo of Piss Drunx, a skate collective that counted Baker founder Andrew Reynolds and Shake Junt's Shane Heyl among its members.
It remains to be seen how the general public responds to the 'Cactus Jack Dior' collection, with Scott facing multiple lawsuits over the deaths and injuries that occurred just under eight months ago at Astroworld. However, if the near-instant sellout of the 'CACT.US Corp' collection and the excitement around his upcoming Air Jordan 1 Low 'Reverse Mocha' are any indication, Scott is already back in pop culture's good graces – if more quietly than before.
