Single of the Week: Kid Fiction “She”

Multi-talented Sydney artist Kid Fiction has released an epic footwork inspired third single from his upcoming self-titled EP out on May 2nd.

Kid Fiction, real name Louis Isaac has been a stalwart on the Sydney underground music scene for a number of years now, hustling away with his many different projects. From his early days busking in a street based reggae band to Corner Store Superheroes who he formed with rapper Steady Bills to work in film and radio, Isaac has dabbled a little in just about everything.
In previous projects he has usually stuck to the production side of music, often opting for collaborations with other vocalists. Recently his song writing and singing has emerged to the forefront as he prepares to release his first solo body of work.

Whether intentional or not, it seems appropriate that “She” was released on the anniversary of the death of footwork pioneer DJ Rashad. Isaac’s influences are broad – taking in UK underground, pop and the polyrhythms of his Afro-Caribbean roots. All are evident on “She,” but with a 160 bpm tempo footwork is definitely the main inspiration here, albeit infused with electro-pop sensibility.

Open hi-hats, an 808 bass line, lush chords and a retro west coast hip hop synth set the base of the track, providing a template for Issacs’s soulful vocals to shine. As the track reaches a crescendo we are treated to breakdowns of incredible multi layered synth workouts providing the cherry on top of an already epic, uplifting jam.

To celebrate the launch of the EP Kid Fiction will be touring Australia performing shows in Sydney, Cairns and Adelaide throughout May and June.
