Splendour in the Grass 2018 announces sideshows and Spin Off Festival

Couldn’t make it to Splendour in the Grass this year or miss out on tickets? Or maybe your one of the lucky ones who got a ticket but seeing your favourite artist just once isn’t enough. Fear not, the first round of sideshows have been announced!  

From established stars to breakthrough acts on their Australian debut tour, there’s something to please just about anyone. Veterans  Chromeo, The Wombats and CHVRCHES will be playing in Sydney and Melbourne while Franz Ferdinand and MGMT will be joint headlining shows across the two cities. Kendrick Lamar will also be performing at arenas in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

One of the great things about Splendour in the Grass is that beyond the headliners there’s a tonne of interesting up and coming acts. Many of these artists will be performing more intimate shows at bars and clubs around Australia.

After delivering one of 2017’s catchiest choruses on “I Love You, Will You Marry Me” and teasing us with a whirlwind promo tour late last year Yungblud will return to our shores. The Northern Englishman will bring his hip hop and ska tinged sound to the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on 21 July and Oxford Art Factory in Sydney on 24 July.

Chicago based rapper Towkio will be making his debut down-under, performing songs from his new album “WWW” to audiences in Sydney and Melbourne. “WWW” features collaborations with the like of SZA and Vic Mensa and he has worked with some of the hottest producers and artists around including Kaytranada and fellow Chicagoan Chance The Rapper.

British producer Riton and Nigerian singer Kah Lo have collaborated on tracks such as “Betta Riddim,” “Rinse and Repeat” and “Money” featuring fellow Nigerians Mr Eazi and Davido. They’ll be making the club go up at Oxford Art Factory on July 20 and shutting the club down at Prince Bandroom in Melbourne the next night.  

Alicia Bognanno, lead singer of grunge revivalists Bully, interned under legendary producer Steve Albini before going on to form the band in 2013. They’ll be performing tunes from their two studio albums at The Tote in Melbourne on July 18 and The Lansdowne in Sydney the following night.

Adelaideans may be feeling a bit left out with all these Sydney and Melbourne side shows. But don’t worry, for the first time in five years Spin Off Festival will be hosting a number of artists for a kind of mini Splendour. The Wombats, Smith Street Band and many others from the Splendour line-up will journey to the South Australian capital for the festival.
