Mix of the Week: David Douglas

Since taking the leap from renowned video director into the music world, David Douglas has gained a reputable name as one of the most expressive and all-encompassing electronica producers around.

Sharing the name of a Scottish horticulturalist, who had cultivated such discoveries as the treasured Californian golden poppy and the sugar pine – whilst introducing up to 240 unknown species of plants into Britain which lead to the inventory of several High School’s named after him as part of his legacy. The curiosity of the Utrecht-based based producer, David Douglas, found inspiration throughout the famous Botanist’s impressive story led to Douglas’s journey of story telling through his music.

Both of his 2012 ‘Royal Horticultural Society’ EP and his debut album “Moon Observations’ were warmly received, gathering support from the likes of Pitchfork, i-D Mag, Electronic Beats, THUMP and XLR8R.

Douglas masters rich organic and atmospheric sounds which encompasses melodic baselines and synth pads to create an emotive story throughout all of his tracks. David Douglas’s Wildeburg 2017 mix follows through a more playful mixture of melodic house music with a funky edge. A perfect pool party mix to set you up for Summer’s oncoming heat waves.
