While it’s all fun and games getting all dressed up and buzzed with your mates, we all go to music festivals for one main reason: to see our favourite musicians and artists absolutely kill it. Spilt Milk was no exception.

One particular highlight came early in the day as Jack River set the pace for the rest of the festival. This dynamic gal and her incredible band had the crowd swaying with her hits Confess, Fault Line and, of course, the song we’d all hoped to hear; Fools Gold. It was particularly moving to hear the chorus echoing from the voices of thousands so early in the day, and it’s safe to say Jack River was a good indication of the quality of the music to be heard.

Up and comer Willaris. K was spouting some serious chooones in his afternoon set. Despite the fact that the sun was still up (I had seriously envisioned his Dour Nights going off at night with some heavy light treatment), the young DJ was energetic and produced some great remixes and classics of his own. Providing a solid set to a willing and waiting crowd an indicator of where this emerging DJ is headed.

As the night ramped up, some old favourites came out swinging. Acts such as Vera Blue and Angus and Julia Stone played their contemporary Aussie hits such as Mended and Big Jet Plane, and were met with roaring and adoring crowds. But it wasn’t until UK act The Wombats stepped on stage that we saw the crowd at its full capacity. The larrikins from Liverpool made their way on stage and opened with songs such as Cheetah Tongue and Let’s Dance to Joy Division that were sung word for word by the front row, who had waited patiently all day for this big name act. Classic performers, The Wombats were a definite highlight and a good beginning to what would become a massive night.

Final acts RL Grime and Peking Duk played simultaneously on the two main stages and divided the crowd in two. LA native RL Grime played an amazing set with perfect lighting to complement the absolutely filthy bass that energised the crowd to a completely new level. Meanwhile, Canberra born and raised boys Peking Duk performed a special show in their hometown, and ensured that audiences got the party they came looking for even in the absence of original headliner Childish Gambino.
