Mix of the Week 14/11: Nath Jennings Party Pack Volume 2 Feat. Brono

Nath Jennings might only be 20 years old, but he’s quickly becoming one of Victoria’s most well established young DJs. Jennings easily switches between house, RnB, bass and rap and the fusion of genres has clearly allowed Jennings to hone his craft and expertly mash songs together to create exciting new bootlegs and remixes. However, this week’s mix doesn’t expose new artists, experiment with new genres or even push Jennings as a DJ. Instead it is an example of his skillset, creating a party mix that playfully combines well-known house, pop and hip-hop.

The set is short, coming in at only about 40 minutes and features fellow DJ Brono. To fit this all in, the mix moves at a breakneck pace. It is an energetic, calling to the dancefloor. With such a fast and kinectic pace established, Jennings moves through a huge amount of songs, often splicing them together and fading them into one another. The best examples of this are his mashup of Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ with Kevin Rudolf’s ‘Let It Rock’, Rhianna’s ‘Where Have You Been’ with David Guetta’s ‘Titanium’, and Eric Prydz’s legendary ‘Call On Me’ with Fisher’s killer ‘Losing It’. Each bootleg is made with enough skill as to make it his own but enough reverence for the original song to please the crowd. Each song is introduced so its notoriety can excite the crowd, but is remixed so as not to overstay its welcome. For a party mix, this plays perfectly to the short attention span of the typical party audience, keeping the dancefloor fresh.

This short but sweet set is jam packed with hits, layered with more hits and mixed together with Jennings’ impeccable timing and flow. It’s a mix that will keep feet moving and hands away from that AUX chord.
