After an intense 12 months of touring, Australian singer Vera Blue follows up her stellar debut album Perennial with a brand new summer single, ‘All the Pretty Girls’. Written during her time in LA last July, the track is built around a live band sound with a faster pace and kinetic energy. If Perennial was based on heartbreak, this new single is all about self-possession and empowerment.

“It’s basically just a little playful song that is also empowering. I feel really excited about it and I just can't wait to play it live” she says. “I feel like a lot of people can probably connect to it because it's kind of a self-protection song.”

‘All the Pretty Girls’ evokes the fun, pop stylings of Fleetwood Mac, fit with an upbeat guitar and bright, powerful vocals. The soft, ethereal synthesisers and rhythmic drum machines of Vera Blue’s previous works open the track to accompany her stunning vocal work. The change of pace and repetitive high pitched chorus of “you make all the pretty girls cry”, is catchy, with all the joyful simplicity of the pop genre driving it forward. The lyrics tell a relatable yet deeply personal story, moving out of heartbreak and learning from the mistakes, with the highly descriptive imagery, such as "I know your type, I spent too many nights, black mascara dripping from my eyes”, giving the listener some powerful emotions to connect with. By the time the final chorus comes around, the energy of Vera’s outstanding voice and the layers of synths, guitar, drums and backup vocals is infectious. Her emotional outpour matches the exciting climax that the instrumentation crescendos to, ending on a high.
