Mix Of The Week: KbF Radio #89 - Litmus
Emerging from the slough that is the Sydney techno-house scene is local producer Litmus. With the re-opening last year of The Flinders and its emergence as a focal point for more developed intersections of techno and house, and Goodbar’s resurgence the year before and location outside lock-out restrictions, all manner of young record spinners are making the pilgrimage — whether physically or electronically — to the minimal clubs of Western Europe and returning to establish a similar aural aesthetic in the handful of Sydney clubs able to support such a scene.
Litmus is one of these journeymen. Known for revving up dancefloors in support of larger local acts and touring outfits, this mix takes a slightly more introspective approach than other mixes of a similar genre than we’ve seen in the last little while. Electronic chirps emanate from above the snare/tom groove, with deeper growls rising up from below. A good manner of vocal samples are thrown in as well to give the beats character.
This is another instalment in Litmus’s international collaborations. This mix in particular was published by Austrian outfit Kopf bei Fuss as part of their regular sampling of auditory talents while hosting events between Graz and Vienna. Litmus has also released an EP titled Intolerance through Paris/London label Signatune, and recorded a mix for London podcast series Afterhours., keeping a broad range of dancers across the globe entertained.
Get grooving to this one before Litmus takes over the decks at Goodbar on Saturday, August 4. Litmus will also be hosting a live set at Something Else Record Store in Newtown on Thursday, August 2 so there’s no excuse to not see a rising local producer such as Litmus in action.
