Sci-Fi Fantasy and Vans Team Up For '90s Tech-Inspired Footwear Collection

Acclaimed skater and photographer Jerry Hsu‘s Sci-Fi Fantasy has teamed up with Vans for a footwear collection inspired by ’90s tech. Made up of fresh takes on the Sk8-Hi, Old Skooland Tri-Lock Sandal, the offerings are inspired by ’90s digital tech ephemera and feature vivid colorblocking.

Sk8-His are split between rich, dark navy blue textiles on the quarter panel and collar and black suede on the toebox/eyestays. White contrast-stitched seams hold the shoe together, “Sci-Fi” and “Fantasy” are embroidered on the left and right heels in white, and a rectangular X patch is present on the lateral collar. Leather Jazz stripes and black/grey midsoles round off the look.

Old Skools ramp up the vibrance, using a kelly green on the quarter and a sporty royal blue on eyestays, toeboxes and heels. All Sci-Fi Fantasy branding — namely the spellout heel embellishments and the “X” logo placed directly on the tongue — is embroidered in yellow. White Jazz stripes and midsoles provide signature Vans flair.

Finally, the Tri-Lock Sandal is done up in simple black with green contrast stitching. Unlike the Sk8-Hi and Old Skool which split “Sci-Fi Fantasy” between the left and right heels, the Tri-Lock puts the full phrase on both heels. Black midsoles with a red Vans heel badge complete the footwear offerings. There’s also an accompanying jersey that reads “Generic Technology” in Chinese across the chest.

The Sci-Fi Fantasy x Vans collection will debut on the Vans webstore this summer. Retail prices have yet to be announced.
