Shades Around the World

Shades Around the World

As far as accessories go, I think sunglasses would be my favourite. They can create such considered stylings and references within someone’s outfit, that they have just as much effect on the overall look of a person as shoes do. With the sun being hotter than ever at the moment and lately the air being filled with ash and other bits and pieces in Sydney, I thought I would put together a list of some sunnies that I think are really great at the moment. I have looked to create a list that has a holistic look at styles of sunnies. Let’s face it, not all sunnies suit all face shape, so always be aware of what works best for you. There are rules - some say that the sunglasses shape should be the opposite to your faces i.e if you have a long face, you want round sunnies and vise versa, this is true to a degree, however no one can tell you what looks good on you but you. If you are looking for a genuine opinion on what looks good just get your best friend or mum to come along with you, because let’s face it, they are the ones who will give you the hard truths. Below are a collection of brands that are currently creating sunglasses that are both innovative and timelessly classic, from all over the world.

The Show Off - Australian

Bailey Nelson have made a name for themselves due to being a classy, sleek designer brand of sunglasses, that is also affordable. They have glasses in all styles and colours to suit face shapes and subtleties. Their prices range from $130 - $250, which for a pair of solidly built glasses with UV protection is quite good. Their Television range which launched for summer 2020 highlights some extremely loud sunnies that scream style. I am all about a good pair of thick framed sunglasses. They sit snug on the face and provide the most coverage for sun protection. Bailey Nelson has a few which sit within this style including the Layla, the Barbara and the Isla but the biggest standout for me is the Jessie. Thick framed, wing tipped, strong glasses that say - I want you to look at me, but I don’t want you to be able to tell who I am. The ultimate superstar look. There sunnies are polarised which is exactly what you need for the Australian sun.

The Wire Frame - French

Waiting for the Sun is a french brand that makes sunglasses that are as light as a feather and stylish as we know the french can be. They use really beautiful colour combinations of browns, blues and greens to create seamlessly beautiful frames. If you are looking for the subtle sunglasses look that could be worn with any outfit and doesn’t take too much away from the face, then the Yama series are for you. They fit like a glove to the face and this style essentially works on all face shapes. They cover the eyes but don’t disguise themselves. A perfect pair of sunglasses for all to have in their repertoire.

The Mad Scientist - Danish

Danish sunglasses manufacturer - Han Kobvenhagen offers glasses that are eclectic, extremely well made and each with their own flair that makes a standard style seem unique and perfect. These are built to last and are the kind of sunglasses that you can have for life (if you don’t lose them).

The Festival Goer - Australian

In the last few years, thin sunglasses have become the standard of party lifestyle and getting loose. They say the thinner the shape the more wild the night. If you are looking for affordable sunnies that look and feel good then Crap Eyeware do the trick. They are under 100 dollars, so if you lose them on a big night, it won’t make you too depressed.
