This week’s mix comes from two young DJ’s who seem to have defied all odds and actually gained momentum in Sydney’s struggling clubbing scene. Peter Semrany and Andrea Calogero, also known as HIJCKD & SEMO, started their careers in the post-lockout era and have since found themselves travelling the world to hone their craft, taking up residency at Noa Beach Club in Croatia. Now back home, they are doing the rounds on the Merivale circuit.

This week’s mix is an hour-long powerhouse and a testimony to the young talents. This heavy electronic dance music is fast and hard, designed for their late-night club floor sets. There is a good mix of genres on display, with the duo opening with hard style, moving to big house and playing with softer techno. There is also a great variety of well-known songs, all of which are expertly edited to match the duo’s full throttle pace. They remix electronic artists, like Will Sparks, The Gorrilaz and Example, rock artists like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Papa Roach and The Killers, and pop artists like Khalid, Lana Del Ray and a stellar inclusion of Hall & Oates. The way they mix 33 tracks together in just one hour gives it a distinct character. It is fast but with so many familiar songs, the audience’s familiarity with the tracklist turns into a constant source of excitement. A special mention absolutely needs to go to their edit of JEFF x Spongebob as hearing Squidward signal a hard style drop is nothing short of glorious.
