The Weekly Collection #71

Sydney Fashion Week may have ended, but fashion news is still overflowing. Read through the Weekly Collection for all the latest, from Rihanna to Havaianas.

Fenty Maison Is Nearly Here

Earlier this year, iconic singer and entrepreneur Rihanna made all of our hearts collectively jump for joy at the announcement of her forthcoming luxury fashion house, Fenty Maison. In a press release, Rihanna called the “incredibly special” collaboration with luxury goods conglomerate LVMH an “opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits”. A longtime icon of the fashion world, from red carpets to Met Galas and more; Rihanna’s new venture into ready-to-wear clothing, shoes, and accessories aims to reflect the fluidity of the modern woman. Yesterday, the first look at the line was revealed: a stunning collection in neutral tones which focuses on structured silhouettes and gender-neutral glam. Unsurprisingly to anyone who has seen the beautiful diversity displayed in advertising for makeup brand Fenty Beauty and runways for Savage x Fenty, Rih’s luxury line will focus on inclusivity, including sizing up to an 18. Speaking of the line, Rihanna said “Women are forces of the earth. We are multifaceted, complex, vulnerable yet bulletproof, and Fenty speaks to all of our intricacies. Some days I want to be submissive, many days I’m completely in charge and most days I feel like being both… so it was imperative that we created a line versatile enough to embrace and celebrate us in that way”. Fenty Maison will debut in-store in Paris on May 24, and will be available to shop online at fenty.com from May 29 - because in Rih’s words, there’s nothing worse than waiting six months for a killer look you saw on a runway.

Netflix and Chill, But Make It Fashion

Two icons of the modern fashion world are hosting Netflix’s newly announced fashion reality series. British model and writer Alexa Chung and also-British Queer Eye star Tan France will oversee 18 designers as they battle it out, reality-tv-competition-style, on Next in Fashion. With the winner taking home US$250,000 and an exclusive collection with Net-A-Porter, it’s sure to be a fiery competition, peppered with guest judges including Instagram’s Eva Chen and celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart. Each episode will see the designers facing challenges exploring “a different trend or design style that has influenced the way the entire world dresses” - and they aren’t just your average collection of amateur designers, either. Each contestant has worked either with major fashion houses or well-known celebrities worldwide, so we’re definitely in for a treat. There’s no word yet on when the show will drop, but if it’s as good as the hosts’ outfits in their promotional pics, it’s one worth waiting for. Game of Thongs

Were you one of the more than 19 million viewers who tuned into the final episode of HBO’s blockbuster series Game of Thrones on Monday? Are you feeling a Game of Thrones shaped hole in your life? Well, fill that gap with the latest offering from infamous Brazilian footwear brand Havaianas: an exclusive range of Game of Thrones themed thongs.
