The Top 5 Chicken
Perhaps because it lacks a strong discernible flavour of its own when compared to other meats such as lamb, beef or pork, practically every culture in the world has come up with their own take on chicken. From the dirty bird to the roast chook there is an endless variety of cooking methods, marinades and batters out there, so we’ve collected our five Sydney favourites doing their take on chicken.
Frangos
Having started in what was once, and in some cases still is, the home of Portuguese culture in Sydney, Petersham, Frangos has now expanded as the Portuguese community have spread out, with locations in Bella Vista, Smithfield, Penrith and Gregory Hills. If you’ve only got a lunch break grab their signature chicken burgers, but if you have any longer we recommend sticking around for the full Portuguese charcoal chicken feast.

El Jannah
Another expanding chicken empire, El Jannah has been bringing the salvation of Lebanese charcoal chicken and toum — garlic sauce — to Western Sydney for many years now. Perhaps the beginning of many journeys of chicken discovery, the classic is still as good as ever.

Belles Hot Chicken
Who said fried chicken couldn’t be washed down with a natural wine? No one, in fact. Belles Hot Chicken have landed on a solid combination of increasingly spicy chicken, gourmet sides and natural wine, all of which has taken them across Sydney and Melbourne. Best enjoyed en plein air (outside) for when you get a hit of the spice sweats, Belles is somehow both painful and addictive.

Wish Bone
From the team behind Hartsyard comes this fast casual eatery on Enmore Road. Stating that theirs is the best friend chicken in Sydney, which we’ll leave up to you to confirm, Wish Bone has certainly gone on a mission to source some of the juiciest and tastiest birds. With a North American bent, the chicken comes with sides of mac and cheese, coleslaw or poutine.

Little L
Focusing on the chicken in a bun technique, Little L also does a solid roast. Tending to the hordes who make their way sundrenched and sand coated from Bondi and Coogee beaches to either of the two locations, Little L is happy to serve you as you are.
