Between Nerve, Horrorshow and now Matt Corby, there’s no one on earth that Triple One can’t create gold with. Sydney’s fasted rising hip hop group have kept themselves busy since the release of their third EP, The Libertine 2, earlier this year. Featuring on a number of other Aussie hip hop tracks, this collaborative spirit has carried on to “So Easy”, featuring Byron heartthrob Matt Corby and Western Sydney rapper Kwame. Both Kwame and Matt Corby have wild, varied and at times experimental music that push boundaries within their genres, which is fitting as the 111s continue their own tradition of diverse but quality tracks with one of their most unique sounding tracks ever.

What makes “So Easy” immediately standout from other 2019 releases, like the downbeat The Libertine 2, emotional “Butter” and heavy “Jitter”, is its brightness. Triple One producer Billy Gunns is only getting better with each track and on “So Easy” there is a huge, overwhelming fanfare as vocal harmonies, brass instrumentation and booming percussions build over the 3min 49secs. The lofi EQing of the intro draws the audience in to expect something soft and deep, like that heard on their 2017 hit “Lakes”, only for this expectation to be flipped on its head. The slow beat and distant, reverberated guitar also work to give the overall mix a more relaxed vibe. This happy tone makes the entire track easy to love and impossible to hate. It also works well in contrast with the lyrics, which depict a heartbreaking tale of unrequited love. Again, this group of young men from the Inner West of Sydney show they are mature beyond their years. Each member gets a chance to shine lyrically, with Obi Ill Terrors’ opening verse being setting the scene, Marty Bugatti’s bars driving home the themes and Lil Dijon’s singing being the secret ingredient that ties it all together. The real star of the track is the chorus. While the triumphant trumpets and bright melody give it a huge feel, Matt Corby and Kwame steal the show with their strong vocal performances. Getting more and more intense with each chorus, they match the emotion of the track, with the final chorus seeing Corby do what he does best and hit those special highs.

Triple One have had a crazy 2019, with festivals, international tours and an EP release. Despite the hectic schedule, they’ve embraced the grind and produced one of their most unique and well rounded tracks to date.
