The Weekly Collection #64
CFDA Award Nominees, a favourite flats brand branching into heels and a sneak peek at CHANEL PHARRELL - dive right into the Weekly Collection.
More from CFDA: the new nominees
Last week, we shared the news that The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) had elected Tom Ford as their new Chairman, but the news doesn’t stop there. In a series of Instagram posts, CFDA have now released the list of nominees for their 2019 Awards. Divided into categories of Womenswear, Menswear, Accessory and Emerging Designers; this years’ nominees include a vast range of old and new favourites in the industry. The nominees include Marc Jacobs, Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte, Virgil Abloh for Off-White and the Olsen twins for The Row. CFDA also announced the honourees for the 2019 Awards: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen will take the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti International Award, Eileen Fisher will receive the Positive Change Award for her commitment to sustainability, stylist and editor Carine Roitfeld will take home the CFDA Founder’s Award and fashion editor and writer Lynn Yaeger will receive the Media Award in honour of Eugenia Sheppard. With the official awards ceremony taking place in early June, there’s still a while to go before we discover who will take home the top prizes - so stay tuned!

Pharrell Chanel Is On Its Way
This week, singer, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams has given the world a sneak-peek at his upcoming collab with Chanel. Initially announced last year at Chanel’s resort 2019 collection display, there hasn’t been much word on the project since - until now. Pharrell has posted a series of teaser videos and photos to his Instagram, with the hashtag #CHANELPHARRELL, attributing the creation of the collection’s name to the late Karl Lagerfeld. In one video, titled Chanel Pharrell: Making Of, the singer explained the inspiration behind the collab, citing diversity and uniqueness as key themes: “I love and celebrate individuality ... we don't need walls, we need bridges.” Models in the video seem to be fans of the streetwear-meets-chic collection saying, “this is history” and calling the singer a “genius”. According to Pharrell, within the capsule collection, “my energy is allowed to express itself, not only in the clothes, the design, the colour and the unisex spirit - that was my wishlist.” The drop date for the collection is TBA, but have a look at the previews for yourself via Pharrell’s instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pharrell/.
