The Weekly Collection #57
This years’ Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia opener, David Jones’ Fall/Winter Collection launches in Hobart, and the first look at Justin Bieber’s foray into fashion: that’s this week’s collection.
Justin Bieber Launches Drew House
Last week, popular chart-topping singer Justin Bieber entered uncharted territories as he launched his fashion label, Drew House. Taking his own middle name, the label claims to be “a place where you can be yourself. blah blah blah blahsdbksjdfhl wear like you don’t care. come chill. k. bye”. If that’s not a bizarre enough statement, wait til you see the collection. There’s only really one word to describe it: beige - in all senses of the word, the collection is beige. The colour, the originality (or lack thereof), and the designs are all just beige. For those fans who have somehow been brainwashed into liking the collection, there’s still a catch - the price. And those fans aren’t shy about their dissatisfaction.
Despite it’s beige-ness and the high price tag, the collection has already sold out and is being restocked. Check it out at https://thehouseofdrew.com/.
#DJsArtOfLiving Launches at MONA in Hobart
The beautiful Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania’s capital city served as the backdrop for David Jones’ launch of their Fall/Winter collection, titled “The Art of Living”. Brand ambassadors Victoria Lee and Jessica Gomes walked the runway with model Gemma Ward as they debuted the upcoming seasons’ trends. In contrast to the usual dark tones of the cooler seasons, the runway featured bright colours, along with bold, clashing prints and textures. Aje To Open MBFWA ‘19
Australian fashion label Aje has been announced as the 2019 Mercedes Benz Designer, meaning they’ll take out the honoured spot as the first show of this year’s MBFWA. The 11-year-old brand, led by Adrian Norris and Edwina Forest, proclaims itself as “dedicated to raw beauty, tough femininity and effortless cool”. Their resort season opener will be their biggest solo show to date, but it’ll be interesting to see how they can top their MBFWA ‘18 presentation, staged in the gardens of the late Brett Whiteley. This year, MBFWA will run from the 12th to the 18th of May - so we’ll have to wait until then to find out.
