Jamie Preisz x Ten Pieces
On December 6, Bondi label Ten Pieces launched their latest collection, working in collaboration with artist Jamie Preisz. The Archibald Packing Room prize winner brought his surrealist engagement with natural forms to the stripped back label.
Developing the collection, Preisz found Ten Pieces to be a perfect fit.
“Ten pieces trusted me to make the work as engaging as I could, and in turn I trusted them with the quality and style of the pieces.”
The garments that form the capsule collection include bags, shorts and shirts, as well as the sleeveless hoodie that owner designer, and restauranteur Maurice Terzini, has made a Bondi staple. Also under the direction of Lucy Hinckfuss, Preisz worked on a hand-painted jacket for this exclusive Ten Pieces collection.
“The custom jacket I painted for the collection I treated like any other canvas I paint,” said Preisz. “I put the same time and effort in as I would any artwork in a gallery.”
When presenting the collection at Bondi Icebergs for the launch, Preisz commented on the “organic collaboration” between himself and the creative team at Ten Pieces, something that was realised through the process of working together, and the concept-driven nature of the collaboration.
“The idea always comes first,” noted Preisz. “It’s vital to be on the same page about that with anyone you collaborate with.”
With motifs such as human hands, flowers, skulls and dripping paint returning in the works for Ten Pieces, the collection operates as extension of Preisz painting practice.
A home-grown collaboration between two dynamic forces of Australian creativity, the collection will be available from Tuesday, December 11, at Ten Pieces’ pop up store in Bondi.
