IMG Announces Australian Fashion Laureate Finalists

Just last week, IMG announced the finalists for the 2018 Australian Fashion Laureate. Established in 2008 by IMG and the NSW government, the honours recognise individuals who have made a significant contribution to the growth, development and global promotion of the Australian fashion industry. Awards are presented for categories including Lifetime Achievement, Womenswear, Menswear, Retail, Emerging Designer and Accessories; and for the first time, Model of the Year and Outstanding Editorial will be added to the list. In the running for the Lifetime Award are a slew of Aussie icons: Camilla Franks, Kym Ellery, and the team behind Romance Was Born, to name a few. It’s sure to be a fierce competition - stay tuned for the winners announced late November, and in the meantime, find the full list of nominees at @fashionweekaus on Instagram.

Actress, Singer and Fashion Icon Zendaya is Teaming Up with Tommy Hilfiger

Following a super successful campaign with Gigi Hadid, American label Tommy Hilfiger has recently announced that next up on the collab list is none other than Zendaya. The singer and actress, who appeared in last year’s The Greatest Showman and Spider-Man: Homecoming, will be the new face of Tommy womenswear from Spring 2019, and will be creating an exclusive TommyXZendaya capsule collection. The titular founder of the brand said in a press release, “Zendaya has become a global icon, using fashion to make bold statements while always staying true to herself. Our capsule collection will fuse her eclectic style with the Americana spirit of our brand”. Zendaya is a firm believer in the power of fashion for more than just wearing cool clothes: “It’s a way to celebrate self-expression and individuality, which is extremely empowering. This is why I am proud to partner with Tommy Hilfiger”.

Balenciaga Is Being Sued By An Air Freshener Company

Yup - a major international fashion house is being sued for copyright infringement by a company that sells car air fresheners. Little Tree Air Fresheners isn’t happy with Balenciaga’s leather tree-shaped keyrings, claiming that they’re far too similar to their namesake car fresheners. I mean, yes, they are a similar shape and style and they are sold in some of the same colours - but personally, I think the Balenciaga’s $275 price tag is a somewhat decent enough differentiator from the $2 car accessory. Nonetheless, Little Trees are steadfast in their determination and allegedly are seeking to win all profits from Balenciaga’s knock-offs.
