The Weekly Collection #42

Which couture brand has been acquired by Michael Kors? Which iconic American brand is now shoppable online in Australia? Who rocked the red carpet at AFL and NRL’s night of nights? For all this and more, scroll through our weekly collection.

Versace on the floor?

This week, it was announced that couture label Versace has been bought by American designer Michael Kors for over US$2 billion. It’s a move that’s already made waves in the fashion world, provoking mixed responses - though largely negative ones. While Versace is a revered name marked by sky-high prices and a general air of luxury, Michael Kors is down the lower end of the upmarket fashion scale, better known for its relatively affordable wares. On Twitter, users are joking about Versace being downgraded to Walmart, with @girlsandrobbers tweeting “I can’t believe our generation witnessed the death of Versace”. But the brands’ chief designer, Donatella Versace, had reassuring words for her fans via Instagram: “I am NOT going anywhere … Versace will remain ITALIAN, Made in Italy … This is just the beginning of an exciting, new adventure that I hope you will live together with me!” Will the Kors/Versace deal weaken or strengthen either brand? Only time will tell.

e-Tommy

Earlier this week, iconic fashion brand Tommy Hilfiger launched an Aussie e-retailer. Bringing you all the best and latest Tommy designs, the online store features sportswear, Tommy Jeans, footwear and accessories, fragrance, swim and underwear - basically, everything you could ever need or want. You can even snap up the recently announced F/W Tommy Icons Collection, styled by models Winnie Harlow and Hailey Baldwin. Browse the brand new site here: https://au.tommy.com/.

From the footy pitch to the red carpet

The big faces of fashion might be flaunting their style over at Paris Fashion week, but the past week or so has been a big one locally, too. The Brownlow Medal and the Dally M Awards, awarded to the player of the year in AFL and NRL respectively, saw some of Australia’s best sportsmen and women glam up and strut their stuff on the red carpet - or at least, the WAGs did. Scroll through for our fave looks from both nights.
