The Weekly Collection #44
This week, there’s plenty of news in the world of fashion: David Jones is your new one-stop designer shoe shop; exciting announcements from the Met and Alexander Wang; a peek into the Moschino x H&M collaboration and a wrap-up of local sales.
David Jones Launches The Shoe Haven of Your Dreams
Earlier this month, David Jones’ Elizabeth Street flagship store launched a brand new luxury shoe floor, Level 7. Browse the opulent aisles for brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Dior, Christian Louboutin, Roger Vivier, Valentino and Salvatore Ferragamo. In a first for Australia, these high-end brands will now be sold outside of their eponymous boutiques. David Thomas, the department store’s CEO, said “In our 180th year, as part of the $200 million redevelopment of our Elizabeth Street flagship, this is an exciting and historic milestone. Level 7 will be home to 85 of the world’s leading brands, many of which are department store exclusive and new to David Jones.” If you want to take your shoe shopping experience to the next level, look no further.
The Met Gala 2019 Theme and Hosts Have Been Announced
Just days ago, the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the details for next years’ Gala event. And - drumroll please - the theme is Camp: Notes on Fashion, which is inspired by American writer Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay Notes on Camp and camp dressing as a “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration”. But the excitement doesn’t end there - the Met also announced the big names who will be co-chairing the Gala, and they’re pretty damn big. As always, Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour will be at the centre of things, but she will be accompanied by two singer-turned-actors, Lady Gaga and Harry Styles; as well as Gucci designer Alessandro Michele and tennis star Serena Williams. With those huge stars thrown into the ring - it’s sure to be one heck of a Gala.
Check Out The Upcoming Moschino x H&M Collab
This week, H&M released the lookbook for their much-anticipated collection with Italian fashion house Moschino. Shot by Marcus Mam and styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, the lookbook encapsulates the essence of the collaboration - fun, free-spirited, kooky and just a bit out-there. Creative director of Moschino, Jeremy Scott, says that his designs are inspired by his friends. “The MOSCHINO [tv] H&M lookbook is like a party; celebrating the fun, the pop, the creativity and the energy of the people and the collection.” Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor of H&M, agrees: “I love how Jeremy captures the spirit of MOSCHINO [tv] H&M in the lookbook. This is a loud and proud collection for everyone to share in the fun, no matter who you are or where you are from”. Save your hype for just a few weeks longer, though - the collection will be available in selected stores worldwide, and online at HM.com, on November 8.
Alexander Wang x Uniqlo
That’s right - one of the world’s most loved designers, Alexander Wang, is teaming up with Japanese retail giant Uniqlo for an upcoming collection focusing on underwear. There aren’t a whole lot of details at this point, but from what we know of both brands, it’s sure to be a high-quality, super chic range of basics with a modern twist. All the pieces will feature Uniqlo’s innovative Heattech fabric, and the collection will be available to purchase from November.
