The Weekly Collection #27
This week, expect fashion with a worthy cause from Jac + Jack’s collaboration with Two Good, Uber and Australian Red Cross and The Australian Fashion Council’s new initiative.
Jac + Jack, Twoobs x Two Good
Australian social enterprise Two Good supports women living in refuges in Sydney and Melbourne, providing them with nourishing food and employment opportunities. Targeted at supporting women who have fled situations of domestic violence, the initiative now offers clothing for women to wear, in partnership with brands such as Jac + Jack and Twoobs. Lisa Dempsey and business partner Jacqueline Hunt of Jac + Jack have designed dark-navy relaxed drawstring pants and a suede cotton sweat top for the cause. For each Jac + Jack set sold through the Two Good website one will be donated to a woman seeking refuge from an undesirable situation. Jacqueline Hunt said to Vogue Australia of the initiative, “Our business model is about working with suppliers that have integrity right the way through our supply chain. We have a successful business, so how does that help other people? How can we all prosper by doing things the right way and bring everyone along for the ride?” Similarly, all vegan footwear label Twoobs – founded by bloggers Jess and Steff Dadon of How Two Live – have announced the launch of their Two Good Grant. This award will offer up to $5000 in prize money, along with a mentorship program led by the sisters. The program is targeted towards female entrepreneurs and applications are open until June 30.
Uber x Australian Red Cross
It’s time for a Spring (Autumn) clean, courtesy of a collaboration that we’d never thought would happen: Uber x Australian Red Cross. With the help of Uber drivers across Sydney, donating pre-loved clothing, footwear and accessories has never been easier. Access the Uber app between 12pm and 4pm on Sunday June 3 , click on the Red Cross Clothing Drive card and Uber will collect your clothes from outside your house for free! The initiative is happening in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Perth – so there’s no excuse if your pile of unworn clothing is getting unruly.
AFC Curated
The Australian Fashion Council has launched a program called AFC Curated – an initiative aimed at supporting local independent labels. Simply, the goal is to bridge the gap between emerging and established labels via a pop-up retail and mentoring program. The store will open its doors this June at Chatswood Chase shopping centre in Sydney. Brands at the pop-up will include Jude, Harlow and Remuse from May 31 until June 3; Avila, Harlow and Kholo from June 7 until June 14; and Autark, Millicent Elizabeth and Vincent Li from June 15 until June 21. Not only will you get to shop the collections, you’ll also be able to connect with designers, who will be sharing their stories and answering any questions you may have.
