MBFWA Tuesday 15th May

While we well and truly settle into the chaos and grind of Fashion week, the line up of talented designers show no sign of slowing down, as they continue to amaze audiences with their innovative and sustainable takes on Resort 19. Have a look at the collections and shows Backyard Opera was lucky enough to see on Day 3 of MBFWA

Carver the Label Showing

Backyard Opera studio regulars, Carver the label has delivered a beautiful new SS18 collection. A true definition of the phrase ‘dynamic duo’ are the Carver sisters Steph and Ness, whose ability to effortlessly merge their feminine and tomboy styles together into each and every one of their collections leads to the creation of the perfect garments for all year round. With Ness’s background in fashion communications and Steph’s design flair, they are an emerging powerhouse in the industry; with their latest collection Havane having us dreaming of balmy evenings gone by, with the merging of delicate, handmade patterns and flirty yet powerful designs like their tailored linen and signature silk slips.

Blair Archibald Runway Show

Winner of the 2017 Woolmark Prize, Blair Archibald’s new collection is utilitarian and raw. With a feature video at the beginning of the show discussing the designers innovative use of wool and his ethos of sustainability with a high-end twist, it was the perfect preface to a fast based, refreshing resort collection.

West 14th Showing

There is something so appealing about a good leather jacket. And leather pant. And leather hoodie. Just anything leather. This might be what makes West 14th’s collection of leather goods so enjoyable, or maybe it’s the stunning, seasonal yet classic colours, the soft touch or the functional nature of each and every product. Made to last forever, designer Violeta Tentomas thinks about the lifestyles of the West 14th woman in order to deliver a perfect cross section between functionality and fashion. West 14th is a label formed as a reaction to it’s environment - created with the realisation that there was a major gap in the market for quality leather goods at an affordable price, according to Tentomas. West 14th embodies a true love for leather, and it shows in the careful craftsmanship and design of each piece.
