Eco-friendly, animal-friendly, and insta-friendly? Sans Beast is a new handbag brand with a difference

Freshly launched Melbourne-born brand Sans Beast is certainly true to its name – its entire philosophy is based around creating its bags and wallets without using (or harming) animals.
Rather than using animal leather and contributing to an industry which is tough on the environment and the animals it uses, Sans Beast products are made from eco polyurethane. EPU is less harmful on the environment thanks to the lack of toxic levels of chemicals involved in the creation process, and it creates the vegan leather which makes up Sans Beast’s collection of stylish bags and wallets.

Sans Beast’s strong ethos is taken straight from the mind of its creator, Cathryn Wills. Formerly the Managing and Creative Director of Aussie handbag fave MIMCO, Wills became uncomfortable with the disconnect she felt between the creation of their products and the harm it inflicted upon animals and the environment. So, she decided to forge a new path for herself; one that reflected her new worldview.

At the brand’s heart is a desire for “fostering a spirit of conscientious purchasing”. By creating high-quality pieces with a strong focus on transparency and finesse of production, brands like Sans Beast encourage less impulse buying and more considered purchases of special items to be loved for longer: “Adored pieces don't go to landfill.  They're treasured, collected, shared, upcycled”.

If you haven’t yet been won over by the beautiful designs and cool spirit of the brand, there’s an added bonus. In addition to their eco and animal-friendly production, Sans Beast also has a charity partnership with Edgars Mission, a not-for-profit animal sanctuary in Victoria. Founded in 2003, the sanctuary now cares for over 450 animals, and all gross profits from Sans Beast Spirit Animal Bag Charms are donated towards taking care of them.
