Mark your calendars: The MBFWA preliminary schedule is here

Bloggers, design enthusiasts and wannabe fashion queens, get hyped, because the preliminary schedule for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2018 has been announced. We combed through it to find the highlights and up-and-comers you may have missed.
2018 heralds the tenth anniversary of Australian brand Camilla and Marc; and, as announced earlier this year, the iconic brother-sister duo will be celebrating in style as they take out the coveted opening spot of fashion week. Expect beautiful, minimalistic elegance as usual on Sunday 13th May.

On Monday 14th, keep a keen eye out for the 1pm presentation by Lee Mathews, whose oversized-chic garments will be making their much-anticipated return to the MBFWA runway. Other highlights of the day are grunge-meets-elegance devotee Thomas Puttick, who is back for his second year on the catwalk; and the cool kids at Double Rainbouu, who pit themselves as “an antidote to traditional resort brands”. Expect lashings of vivid colours and prints to liven up the stage from Mikey Nolan and Toby Jones,  the design duo behind the brand.

On Tuesday 15th, you’ll be seeing double with presentations by two sister-started brands – macgraw, whose opulent yet delicate pieces are created by Beth and Tessa MacGraw – alongside We Are Kindred, the brainchild of Lizzie and Georgie Renkert, which celebrates “sexy feminism” through their florals and frills. It’ll be another day of MBFWA debuts, too, with BLAIRARCHIBALD’s modern take on minimalism for women and men; Pereira Fitzgerald’s mix of elegance and playfulness; and Londoner Emilia Wickstead, whose collaboration with MatchesFashion.com is eagerly anticipated, partly due to (literal) fashion royalty Kate Middleton’s obsession with the brand.

Hump-day highlights on the 16th will include the St. George NextGen showcase, where we can get a sneak peak of the designers to watch in the upcoming years, as well as the Raffles International Showcase, which will similarly feature outstanding work from the design school.     Another strong day of debuts, Wednesday will see a runway by New Zealand leather accessories brand Deadly Ponies, Melbourne-based and Melbourne-inspired indie brand I.AM.GIA (a favourite of models Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski). Also harking from Melbourne and unveiling their first fashion collection will be Client Liaison, the indie-pop duo who are taking their talents from the airwaves to the runway.

Thursday 17th will see the most impressive graduates from the Fashion Design Studio giving us a glimpse into fashion’s future creators in the FDS: The Innovators showcase. In celebration of 25 years of superior fashion artistry by Akira Isogawa, the Akira runway is sure to be another highlight, before the week ends with a bang with kaftan kween Camilla (who, as previously announced, will be kicking off the Weekend Edition on Friday night).

During the day of Friday the 18th, the public is invited along to the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences’ Seminar Series; a day of discussions and panels expected to cover everything from the fashion industry, to its future, and its influencers.

With all these show-stopping highlights and many more yet to be announced, MBFWA 2018 promises to be as glamorous, inspiring and innovative as ever!
