The Weekly Collection #14

Jacquemus’ surprise #newjob, sustainability at Vogue Australia and an A.P.C. surplus sale – Weekly Collection #14.

Jacquemus Fall Ready to Wear 2018 and L’Homme Jacquemus

Not a stranger to social media and its inner workings, Simon Porte Jacquemus has finally revealed his #newjob. The hashtag teased his loyal followers and fans on Instagram for weeks, until his Fall Ready to Wear 2018 show – where he sported a jumper with “New Job: L’Homme Jacquemus” written on its front. His men’s collection will debut in June and has been long awaited by many, with Jacquemus only designing for women since the inception of his brand in 2009.

Not only did Jacquemus rock the fashion world with his latest announcement, but also with his Moroccan inspired collection, “Le Souk”.  He posted:
“I often leave for Morocco after a show. I ride my motorbike. I ride so much that at the end of the day, my shirts smell like gas. This winter, I got lost in the souks once again, with just one thing on my mind: I want to make it my next summer collection. I came back to Paris and made my winter of it; my winter collection. Not wasting anymore time, my warm winter”. The collection was positively received by many – who felt the warmth and emotion associated with his experiences in Morocco, executed without the cultural appropriation that some feared in the lead up to his show.

Camilla and Marc Opening Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Designers Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman will be opening Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Sydney this coming May. They’ll open a whole week of fashion shows, presentations and talks with both Australian and global designers as well as known fashion names. The rest of the fashion week schedule is yet to be announced, however, the likes of Australian designers such as Dion Lee, Ellery, Ginger and Smart, Hansen and Gretel and Ten Pieces will be presenting their collections throughout the week.

Vogue Australia’s New Sustainability Editor-At-Large

In a decision reflective of the fashion industry’s slow move to sustainable practices, Vogue Australia has appointed a new Sustainability Editor-At-Large. Clare Press, has taken on the role at the same time as the release of Vogue Australia’s March issue, guest-edited by Emma Watson and focused on sustainability.
“The biggest change to happen in my lifetime is already happening: climate change. Global warming and extreme weather projections are scary, but I feel hopeful – there are so many inspiring people, particularly younger women, emerging in the green movement,” said Press to Vogue Australia.

Gucci & Gun Control

Gucci has pledged US $500 000 to a gun control march in Washington D.C, happening this March. The donation comes after the most recent high-school shooting, where 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. There are expected to be at least 500 000 protestors in attendance.
“I am truly moved by the courage of these students. My love is with them and it will be next to them on March 24. I am standing with March for Our Lives and the strong young women and men across the United States who are fighting for their generation and those to come”, said creative director Alessandro Michele to WWD.
This is not the first time Gucci has stood with millennials – their pre-fall 2018 campaign featured young Gucci-clad protestors, inspired by the Paris student awakening which began in universities in May of 1968.
