The Weekly Collection #11
A huge Weekly Collection – finally wrapping up 2017, sustainable Australian fashion at Buckingham Palace and another blow to H&M’s reputation.
Australian brand at sustainable fashion show at Buckingham Palace
Sustainable and ethical Australian brand, Kitx, will take place in a fashion show presented by the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange at Buckingham Palace. The show is made up of designers and artisans who are from a British Commonwealth nation – showcasing their ethically made and sustainably sourced designs.
Kitx, founded by Kit Willow in 2015, has always been dedicated to “design-led, ethical and sustainable fashion”. Unlike her fast fashion counterparts, Kitx doesn’t just promise to deliver, she’s delivered from the get-go. “We create product love with high frequency wear, superior quality and creative design while consciously sourcing materials that minimise harm to our planet’s precious resources”. While her collection for the show won’t drop until February 19th, it is hoped that the event at Buckingham Palace will help elevate the fashion industry’s reputation, as the second biggest polluter in the world.
The Hottest Brands of 2017
In an index generated by Lyst and the Business of Fashion, which analysed information and data from over 70 million consumers – the top 10 brands on 2017 have been revealed. Controversially, taking first place was Gucci with Balenciaga coming in at second place. Fourth to tenth places were taken up by the following brands, respectively – Valentino, Off-White, Givenchy, Moncler, Stone Island, Balmain and Yeezy.
H&M Allegedly Steals Melbourne Musician’s Track
H&M have landed themselves in hot water again, after musician Mike Katz (and supposed entertainment lawyer, according to ABC) has claimed that they used his track without permission, credit or royalties. Katz, aka Harvey Sutherland, got in contact with the company via an Instagram post which features his song, Bamboo. His comment attracted so much attention that #payharvey spammed the post in question. The post and all content featuring his music was deleted. It is alleged that H&M and Katz are still communicating to resolve the issue.
