The Weekly Collection #9

The Weekly Collection #9

It’s only the second week of the ‘fashion year’ – according to us – and things are gearing up in preparation for international Fashion Weeks.  Keep reading for Australian fashion news and this week’s sample sale.

Alice McCall taking part in New York Fashion Week

Australian designer, Alice McCall, has just been announced as part of the lineup for New York Fashion Week this February. The brand, founded in 2004, has most recently been picked up by retailers such as Net-a-Porter and been worn by the likes of Beyonce. Apart from feature pieces such as a $2000 jacket in her latest collection – McCall wants to avoid alienating her loyal Australian customers by keeping her price range in the three-figure range.
Her Fashion Week debut has been recognised as huge a win for the international growth of the Australian fashion industry. McCall’s pieces will be seen on New York runways alongside other Australian brands, such as Zimmermann and Dion Lee.

The latest Calvin Klein Campaign

The latest Calvin Klein campaign, Family Four Jeans, is the reason why your Instagram feed has been filled with an influx of family portraits in Calvin Klein underwear. The likes of A$AP Rocky and his family, the Gerber siblings, Solange Knowles and her ‘musical family’ and most recently, the Kardashians. The hashtags #ourfamily and #mycalvins will continue to crop up all over Instagram as the campaign continues and family portraits are shared.

AFC sends Australian Designers to London

As part of Fashion Week in February, The Australian Fashion Council has hand-picked four Australian designers to travel to London for the London Designers Abroad Showroom. The designers include Pared Eyewear, Manning Cartell, We Are Kindred and Harman Grubiša. This program means that homegrown designers will have the chance to meet and liaise with mentors and buyers during Fashion Week. While this will be the seventh event hosted by the Australian Fashion Council sending designers abroad – this is a rare and exclusive opportunity for them to expand further and raise Australia’s international fashion profile.
