Homeshake: RnB infused indie for loners
LISTEN
The album, ‘Fresh Air’, by Montreal artist HOMESHAKE (Peter Sagar) is the possibly the paragon of indie-chill, specifically, the single, ‘Every Single Thing’. The tune begins with off-kilter synths fading into a spoken phrase: ‘hey, are you even paying attention to me right now?’. What then ensues is a camp, swampy bassline that grooves and glides its way into your body, without a doubt resulting in some foot tapping, or something.
It’s a tune about ruminating while trying to be social, contemplating, ‘every single thing’, and feeling ‘out of touch’, leading to a vibe of neglect and disconnect. Because the verses are comprised of just beat, and bass, the textural sparseness reflects a sense of isolation, of wrestling with one’s own disposition. Reflective off-kilt synths enter in and out, hovering above the bass, subtly complimenting it.
It’s a short number, so get ready to leave it on repeat for at least the entire day, or get listening to the entirety of the album, which is equally spectacular. Catch the single above on Soundcloud, and/or the album below on Spotify.
