Infinite Bisous (or Infinite Kiss) is indie-romance-rock for all of our unrequited (and requited) loves. Rory McCarthy – the projects sole creative progenitor – has an affinity for retro synths, simple arrangements and laid-back tempos. His musical counterparts, Mac DeMarco and Conan Moccasin (who McCarthy toured with as an instrumentalist), give us a sense of where the ‘sine qua non’ of his musical style takes its foothold.

The most well-known track of his current discography, ‘Teen Sex’ presents a luscious arrangement of delicate, clean-toned guitars, a paired-back groove awash in sensual synthesisers, led playfully along by pillow-talk vocals. Here, the lyrics are simple: ‘downstairs there’s a party/won’t you stay for me? /we’re safe for the moment/love over you/teenage sex’.

A zealous romantic drive towards an insulated world of love and attachment is characterised through these simple words. The songs straight-forward chorus, whose hook hinges upon the repetition of the phrase ‘teenage sex’, which over time, becomes a meditation upon emotional and physical intimacy that peaks with the penultimate musical symbol of sexuality: a slap bass solo (infused with an 8-bit effect for that little extra bit of sonic texture because after all, intimacy and touch are kin).
