Aperture Australia Returns in 2019

For the second year running, Aperture Australia will introduce audiences to the breadth of the photographic industry. Taking place at the Sydney International Convention Centre over the weekend of June 22-23, speakers and events will cover landscape, documentary, wildlife and artistic forms of photography.

While the first event focused on domestic photography, this year Aperture Australia will include insights from some of the best photographers around the globe. A line up of local and international speakers will share their experiences and stories across six talks. Speakers include Ami Vitale, a National Geographic photojournalist, Australian landscape photographer Christian Fletcher, Tarama Dean, who works with photographs as a digital art form, conflict photojournalist Stephen DuPont and oceanic photographer Ray Collins. Hosting the panels and discussions will be TV personality Ray Martin, a long-time supporter of photography and an avid photographer himself.

In between these speakers, attendees will be able to hear from industry leaders as well as network and chat with other photographers about the trends and techniques gripping the sector. Capping off the event is the Aperture award for the 2019 Emerging Photographer. Presented to a photographer under the age of 35, this award includes an interview with Ray Martin to present their photographic work, a double pass to the conference, a VIP dinner with the speakers and a one on one mentoring session with a well-known Australian photographer. Charles Davis, who won the prize last year, has captured iconic Australian animals in the Australian Alps, challenging our understandings of what the Australian image can be.

Over the course of two days, Aperture will expose a thousand photographers at all points of their career to the possibilities and achievements within the field. Aperture Australia Director Glenn Mckimmin highlighted that “we are very excited to bring yet another outstanding lineup of exceptionally talented international and local speakers to get down to the nitty-gritty of the photography profession.”

Tickets are on sale now and entries are open for the 2019 Emerging Photographer award. Find out more here: http://apertureaustralia.com.au/
